Full-Stack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Develop and deploy full-stack features from start to finish, encompassing database schema, backend services, and user interfaces.

• Convert customer challenges and product specifications into functional software solutions.

• Gradually enhance the established codebase and mitigate technical debt during feature development.

• Create tests, boost automated test coverage, and engage in code reviews.

• Design features that can handle live-event traffic and troubleshoot production issues.

• Optimize queries, background processes, and frontend performance.

• Construct and manage integrations with third-party marketing, CRM, and payment systems.

• Create designs for handling timeouts, rate limits, partial failures, and silent errors.

• Ensure data integrity across a sharded multi-database architecture.

• Collaborate directly with Product on project scoping and feasibility assessments.

• Assist Customer Support with the diagnosis of customer-reported issues.

• Document system knowledge for future reference and aid in onboarding new engineers.

• Contribute to either the Live Experience or Platform product focus area.

• Deliver dependable features, support live events, complete the billing migration, and enhance codebase maintainability.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of experience in building and maintaining production web applications.

• Proficient in PHP and modern Laravel within a large existing codebase.

• Experience with Vue in production, or strong skills in React or Angular with a willingness to work in Vue 3 regularly.

• Familiarity with relational databases at scale, which includes query optimization, large-table migrations, replication, and failover behavior.

• Knowledge of background job systems, including concepts like idempotency, retries, and dead-lettering.

• Capability to incrementally enhance established systems and take responsibility for inherited code.

• For Live Experience: experience in real-time or collaborative applications using WebSockets, Firebase, or similar publish-subscribe synchronization technologies.

• For Live Experience: experience with reconnection strategies and out-of-order state management.

• For Live Experience: familiarity with browser media APIs and WebRTC or HLS playback in a production environment.

• For Live Experience: experience in supporting real-time systems where downtime is immediately noticeable to users.

• For Platform: experience with multi-tenant or sharded database architectures.

• For Platform: knowledge of third-party marketing and CRM integrations and their potential failure modes.

• For Platform: understanding of transactional email deliverability, including DKIM, sender reputation, bounce management, and complaint handling.

• For Platform: experience with payment provider migration.

• Eagerness to work within a mature production codebase and collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Customer Support teams.
