Freelance Social Editor – Complex Bets

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Develop, enhance, and supervise the voice of Complex Bets across various social media platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts), demonstrating keen editorial judgment and audience-sensitive framing tailored for sports betting and predictive markets.

• Create, curate, and publish all content across the Complex Bets social channels, encompassing odds-related content, predictive insights, game-day reactions, betting trends, and platform-native storytelling.

• Lead community management, moderation, and direct message engagement, cultivating a credible, knowledgeable, and energetic betting community that aligns with the Complex tone.

• Identify and propose viral betting angles, market fluctuations, breaking odds changes, and culturally significant sports moments to editorial and video teams.

• Own major sports events (NFL Sundays, NBA Playoffs, March Madness, significant boxing/MMA fights, World Cup, etc.), collaborating with design to create platform-specific assets and independently producing reactive content in real time.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with editorial, video, commerce, partnerships, and experiential teams across Complex Networks to enhance betting-related initiatives and brand partnerships.

• Execute promotions for betting-focused commerce and experiential initiatives, including live-event coverage, watch parties, predictive market launches, and partner activations.

• Generate, source, and create real-time betting content that captures memes, odds fluctuations, prop bets, and trending narratives on the verge of going viral.

• Participate in editorial brainstorming sessions and social planning meetings to ensure betting coverage is culturally relevant, timely, and unique.

• Act as the primary contact for Complex Bets' social objectives (growth, engagement, video views, referral traffic), developing vertical-specific strategies and optimizing performance based on analytics and platform trends.

• Monitor and share social and platform best practices specific to sports media and betting content, delivering competitive analysis and top-notch examples.

• Oversee the workflow of editorial social posts, coordinating with branded social to align sponsored betting content with organic publishing schedules.

• Implement and utilize AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency, predictive content ideation, performance analysis, and creative testing.

• Explore, recommend, and test emerging platforms and betting-related communities to broaden Complex Bets’ presence.

• Appear on camera as needed for betting previews, rapid reactions, odds breakdowns, and social-first video content.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2–3 years of experience in social media and editorial roles with a publisher, sports brand, betting platform, or a culturally relevant media company.

• Extensive understanding of sports betting, predictive markets, odds culture, and their intersections with sports, pop culture, and internet trends.

• Strong knowledge of major U.S. and global sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, soccer, college sports, combat sports, etc.).

• A positive, intuitive, proactive, and collaborative team player with strong decision-making abilities in fast-paced live-event environments.

• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the capacity to translate betting terminology into accessible, engaging social media copy.

• Willingness to appear on camera in social media content.

• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays during major sporting events.

• Deep fluency across all social platforms (Instagram, Twitter/X, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Facebook) and an understanding of sports audiences' behavior on each.

• Proven success in driving audience engagement and action within sports or betting communities.

• Stay updated on competitors in sports media and betting content to ensure Complex Bets maintains a unique position.

• Strong self-management abilities and a proactive attitude.

• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite and Premiere Pro.
