This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +6 more states.
• Assess fraud detection rules, monitoring mechanisms, alert effectiveness, false positives, and data integrity issues; suggest improvements.
• Create, manage, and enhance dashboards, routine reports, trend analyses, and ad hoc data presentations.
• Detect emerging fraud patterns, attack strategies, mule behavior, account takeover signs, synthetic identity issues, questionable online account openings, and social engineering signals.
• Query, extract, validate, and analyze extensive datasets utilizing SQL-based databases, Snowflake, Excel, and other authorized analytical tools.
• Examine fraud alerts, account activities, customer behaviors, transaction trends, and additional data sources.
• Investigate and analyze high-risk transactions across digital banking, Zelle, Bill Pay, Bank-to-Bank transfers, debit cards, wires, ACH, checks, and various payment methods.
• Communicate internal control shortcomings, data constraints, system problems, and fraud vulnerabilities.
• Offer analytical assistance, peer mentorship, training, and subject matter expertise to colleagues.
• Comply with SouthState Bank’s BSA/AML/OFAC operating procedures and internal controls.
• Assist in fraud investigations, strategy formulation, risk-based decision-making, reporting, escalation, loss mitigation, and regulatory compliance.
• At least 5 years of experience in fraud, financial crimes, BSA/AML, banking operations, risk management, data analytics, or a related role within a financial institution or a similarly regulated environment.
• Proven experience in conducting fraud investigations, analyzing transaction activities, and recognizing fraud or financial crime trends.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in querying, analyzing, and reconciling large datasets using SQL-based databases, Snowflake, Excel, or comparable tools.
• Experience in creating management reports, dashboards, trend analyses, or data-driven recommendations.
• Familiarity with fraud detection systems, case management platforms, digital banking systems, core banking systems, payment channels, or transaction monitoring solutions is preferred.
• At least 2 years of experience supporting fraud strategy, rule tuning, control enhancements, alert optimization, or loss reduction initiatives is preferred.
• Proficient understanding of SQL, Snowflake, relational databases, data extraction, validation, and quality concepts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, data cleansing, and analytical functionalities.
• Knowledge of data visualization, dashboarding, or reporting tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms is preferred.
• Familiarity with Python, R, SAS, model monitoring, statistical analysis, or machine learning concepts is preferred but not mandatory.
• Comprehensive understanding of fraud typologies and bank fraud schemes.
• Familiarity with various payment types and digital banking products, including Zelle, Bill Payments, Bank-to-Bank payments, ACH, wires, checks, and debit cards.
• Thorough knowledge of BSA/AML regulations concerning suspicious activity monitoring, escalation, and reporting.
• Strong grasp of bank operations and banking systems.
• CAMS, CAFP, CFE, or data analytics-related certification is preferred.
• Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong investigative judgment and capacity to determine when escalation is necessary.
• Capability to query, analyze, reconcile, and summarize large datasets with precision and efficiency.
• Ability to translate data insights into business recommendations, risk-based actions, and executive-level reports.
• Sound judgment, discretion, and integrity when managing confidential information.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and make prompt decisions.
• Strong attention to detail, data quality, documentation, and audit trail requirements.
• Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data visualization or reporting tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with various business lines, operations, technology, risk, legal, compliance, and management partners.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret Federal and State banking regulations and internal policies.
• Ability to work remotely in a secure, distraction-free environment with a reliable internet connection; mobile hotspots are not acceptable.
• Must complete required training and adhere to BSA/AML/OFAC procedures and controls.
• Must be capable of working at a computer for extended periods and communicating with colleagues and clients.
