Forward Deployed Engineer, Epic Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary technical resource, either on-site or virtually embedded, for 1–2 health system clients, establishing trusted relationships with their Epic analysts, interface teams, and clinical informatics personnel.

• Facilitate Epic workflow discovery sessions: map existing clinical workflows, pinpoint where AI outputs should be integrated (In Basket, CDS card, AVS note, workflow step, report), and document the integration strategy.

• Create the comprehensive integration specifications for each use case—encompassing Epic Bridges interface configuration, FHIR R4 endpoints, CDS Hooks trigger logic, SMART on FHIR app placement, or SendMessage / MDM T02 delivery paths.

• Collaborate with client Epic teams to advance the interface build on the client side; act as the definitive technical authority on necessary actions and their rationale.

• Manage end-to-end testing and validation: from QH platform output through the Epic interface to the point of care, identifying issues before they impact clinicians.

• Convert field insights—edge cases, clinical feedback, configuration gaps—into structured platform requirements for QH’s data engineering and product teams.

• Assist in change management at client sites: support clinical champions in understanding and adopting new AI-enabled workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Epic implementation consulting, health system clinical applications, healthcare IT integration, or SMART on FHIR app development.

• Hands-on experience with at least one Epic module (Bridges, Ambulatory, ClinDoc, MyChart, Orders, BPAs) in a build, configuration, or implementation capacity.

• Proven ability to design solutions in front of clients—you can guide a health system IT team through an interface architecture, making it understandable to both technical analysts and clinical stakeholders.

• Familiarity with HL7 v2 and FHIR R4 concepts; while you don’t need to be a developer, you must comprehend message structures, data flows, and integration patterns.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; you can draft a clear interface specification, lead a requirements session, and articulate a technical dependency to a CMO without losing the audience.

• Preferred Skills — Archetype A: Epic Implementation Background: Epic certification in Bridges, Ambulatory, ClinDoc, MyChart, or Orders.

• Experience going live on at least one Epic implementation at an Epic partner organization or health system.

• Acquainted with Epic Project Workplan structure, build environments, and go-live cutover procedures.

• Experience with Epic CDS Hooks configuration or SMART on FHIR app registration in a production Epic environment.

• Preferred Skills — Archetype B: Health System Clinical Informatics / Workflow Background: Experience in a health system clinical applications, informatics, or IT analyst role.

• Direct experience with clinical workflow design in Epic from the provider perspective—you understand how physicians and nurses navigate the EHR.

• Familiarity with the political and operational dynamics of health system IT governance (steering committees, clinical champions, change control).

• Has deployed or assessed a SMART on FHIR app or collaborated with a third-party vendor on an Epic integration.
