Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with end users and stakeholders to identify their most significant challenges, then develop and implement software solutions that effectively meet those needs.

• Assume complete responsibility for features from initial concept through to deployment, which includes prototyping, integrating with current systems, and ensuring optimal performance in demanding real-world scenarios.

• Work collaboratively across engineering, product, design, and operations teams to create scalable systems, prioritize tasks, and drive complex projects to successful completion.

• Continuously assess and enhance system reliability and performance by instrumenting code, analyzing metrics, diagnosing issues, and iterating on solutions.

• Balance the urgency of immediate tasks with the need for long-term maintainability—making informed trade-offs that ensure solutions remain practical, effective, and aligned with mission objectives.

• Travel approximately 25% of the time to deploy, field-test, and provide support for software systems, collecting feedback directly from users to ensure success in operational environments.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong coding expertise with proven proficiency in programming languages such as Go, C++, TypeScript/JavaScript, or similar languages.

• A strong sense of ownership; we seek a motivated individual who is proactive and willing to take responsibility for all aspects of the development and deployment of our software for a specific military customer.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively within teams comprising both technical and non-technical members, and comfortable adapting in a fast-paced environment with evolving objectives and user iteration.

• Excellent communication skills, with a keen interest and ability to lead customer-facing engineering discussions.

• Active U.S. secret security clearance is required; top secret clearance is preferred.

• Experience in developing software within defense, aerospace, or other complex operational sectors.

• Familiarity with logistics, supply chain, or sustainment challenges, particularly in military settings.

• Experience in deploying software to production environments and managing cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Kubernetes) as well as edge infrastructure.

• Exposure to data engineering, analytics, or machine learning in operational scenarios.
