Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

📋 Description

• Perform comprehensive technical assessments within selected strategic accounts to evaluate platform readiness, identify constraints, and uncover high-value adoption opportunities for GitLab and GitLab Duo Agent Platform.

• Lead the design and architecture delivery for intricate enterprise environments where platform migrations, regulatory requirements, and product limitations converge.

• Collaborate with customer stakeholders and GitLab account teams to prioritize use cases based on their business impact, technical viability, repeatability, and long-term platform benefits.

• Create and develop bounded proofs, prototypes, deployment patterns, and reusable accelerators across domains such as source code management, CI/CD, security, compliance, and AI-enhanced workflows.

• Architect self-managed and enterprise-level deployments, encompassing runners, access controls, network boundaries, observability, AI Gateway, model connectivity, and governance frameworks.

• Transform recurring field patterns into reusable resources, including runbooks, templates, design documentation, technical guidance, product briefs, and reference architectures applicable across multiple accounts.

• Contribute code, technical designs, or architectural modifications as strategically required, in collaboration with product and engineering teams, to overcome upstream challenges.

• Travel as required for key customer interactions, architecture workshops, and team coordination, with an anticipated travel commitment of up to 50%.

⛳️ Requirements

• Background in software engineering, platform architecture, forward-deployed engineering, technical consulting, or similar customer-oriented engineering roles.

• Solid understanding of software engineering principles, including the ability to read, analyze, and contribute to production systems, preferably with experience in Ruby on Rails and/or Go.

• Proficient in systems design and software architecture, with a track record of evaluating APIs, asynchronous workflows, CI/CD systems, security frameworks, scalability, and operational trade-offs.

• Practical experience with GitLab CI/CD, pipeline design, YAML, runners, and GitLab APIs.

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code and enterprise deployment tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Helm, or similar methodologies.

• Understanding of large language models, agentic patterns, tool orchestration, and the operational limits of AI systems in production settings.

• Proven history of developing reusable technical assets that extend beyond a single engagement, alongside strong written and verbal communication abilities for technical design and architectural guidance.

• Ability to lead discussions with senior stakeholders across security, compliance, engineering, platform, and business teams, particularly in complex enterprise situations.
