Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.

📋 Description

• Collaborate directly with business stakeholders, VPs, clinical leads, and operations owners to identify ambiguous, high-value challenges and convert them into actionable AI opportunities.

• Pose incisive questions, challenge preconceptions, and determine the characteristics of a minimum viable AI solution prior to any coding.

• Map existing processes comprehensively, pinpoint areas where AI can reduce friction, lower costs, or expedite decision-making, and convey your insights in business language.

• Create concise scoping documents and ROI estimates that align stakeholders and establish clear success criteria before the development process kicks off.

• Design and develop functional AI prototypes within days utilizing Claude and the current AI development stack.

• Construct full-stack AI applications that encompass LLM orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic workflows, REST API integrations, and lightweight front-end interfaces.

• Take full ownership of your technical architecture from prompt design through to data pipeline and user interface, and be prepared to articulate every design decision to both engineering and business stakeholders.

• Iterate based on real user feedback in the field, ensuring early shipping, rapid learning, and a deliberate drive towards production-grade quality.

• Collaborate with Brillio's AI Governance team to validate, enhance, and transition prototypes into production-ready, enterprise-grade systems.

• Incorporate responsible AI principles—such as bias review, explainability, HIPAA compliance, audit logging, and model monitoring—into every build as a standard practice.

• Thoroughly document solutions to ensure they can be handed off, scaled, and maintained by wider engineering teams without the need for rework.

• Contribute to Brillio's reusable AI accelerator library by transforming client-specific solutions into patterns suitable for deployment across various engagements.

• Engage in all client business rhythm meetings, including sprint reviews, program steering committees, and executive status updates.

• Showcase progress through live demonstrations and functional software rather than relying solely on slide presentations.

• Clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical business leaders, building the trust necessary to transition from pilot projects to broader implementations.

• Identify blockers, dependencies, and risks early on, providing clear, solutions-oriented framing.

• Develop a deep understanding of your client's business, workflows, data, competitive pressures, and regulatory landscape.

• Acquire sufficient knowledge of healthcare operations to create your own hypotheses for problems rather than just responding to incoming requests.

• Establish relationships with business counterparts that extend beyond project delivery, becoming a trusted advisor on the capabilities and limitations of AI in their context.

• Contribute to internal knowledge sharing by bringing insights from client engagements back to Brillio's broader applied AI community.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in the healthcare industry: Direct, hands-on experience in health insurance operations (underwriting, claims adjudication, utilization management, product launch) or in clinical and operational workflows of health systems. You must possess an understanding of how these environments function.

• Proficiency with Claude (Anthropic) as a development tool, showcasing demonstrated use of the Claude API including prompt engineering, tool utilization, and agentic patterns to create real applications. Using Claude solely as a chat interface does not qualify; you must have practical development experience.

• Full-stack AI engineering expertise: Capability to independently build and deploy end-to-end AI applications. This includes LLM integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic orchestration, REST API development, and lightweight front-end interfaces sufficient for presenting a working demo to a client.

• Proven ability to prototype quickly: A track record of transforming a business discussion into a functioning AI prototype within days, rather than sprints or quarters. You should be able to provide examples of your work, the speed at which it was completed, and the problems it addressed.

• Strong business articulation and stakeholder communication skills: Ability to enter a meeting with healthcare executives and clearly explain what you developed, its significance, costs, and next steps, doing so confidently and without using jargon. This is essential for a client-facing role.

• Maturity to engage at the executive level: Comfortable participating in steering committees, executive briefings, and business rhythm meetings without requiring assistance. You can command the room, navigate pushback, and show progress in terms that matter to business leaders.

• Skill in structuring ambiguous problems: When a business leader states, "we need to reduce risk in our underwriting process," you can decompose that into a clearly scoped AI opportunity with defined inputs, outputs, and success criteria before opening a laptop.

• Quantitative fluency for ROI and impact assessment: Ability to construct straightforward yet credible business cases that estimate time saved, costs reduced, or revenue protected, and translate AI results into financial language that resonates with finance and operations leaders.
