Forensic Mechanical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Investigate and assess the underlying causes and severity of failures and damages to HVAC and MEP systems.

• Examine building management systems (BMS) and building automation systems (BAS).

• Analyze fire protection and fire alarm systems.

• Evaluate various types of mechanical failures.

• Operate remotely from a home office.

• Conduct fieldwork in confined spaces and at elevated heights.

• Travel locally, regionally, and nationally as required.

• Develop comprehensive and technically sound reports.

• Offer expert witness services.

• Collaborate both independently and with interdisciplinary teams of specialists.

• Provide clear and defensible forensic engineering conclusions for clients.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must hold a Licensed P.E. in your state of residence or be eligible through reciprocity.

• 5–10 years of practical experience designing or working with mechanical equipment and systems across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

• Proficiency with HVAC and MEP systems is essential.

• A minimum of 5 years of forensic engineering experience is strongly preferred.

• Capability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.

• Excellent technical writing abilities and the skill to produce effective reports.

• Strong verbal communication skills are required.

• Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

• Technical proficiency with computers, phones, cameras, and industry-specific software applications.

• Experience as an expert witness is essential.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship or restrictions.

• CFI (IAAI) and/or CFEI (NAFI) certifications are strongly preferred.

• Ability to perform fieldwork, including in confined spaces and at heights.

• Must be able to carry ladders and operate necessary equipment.

• Willingness to travel locally, regionally, and nationally by vehicle or plane.

• Openness to overnight travel is required.

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university is mandatory.

• A Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is highly desirable.
