This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead and oversee fire prevention staff, which includes fire inspectors, fire plans examiners, and administrative personnel.
• Set division goals, objectives, policies, and performance benchmarks.
• Conduct employee assessments, provide coaching, implement disciplinary measures, and facilitate professional growth initiatives.
• Develop and manage division budgets and resource distribution.
• Supervise fire and life safety inspections for commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family properties.
• Ensure adherence to relevant fire codes, regulations, and standards.
• Review inspection findings and enforcement actions for consistency and legal adherence.
• Oversee the evaluation of construction plans, tenant modifications, fire protection systems, and development initiatives.
• Interpret and enforce the applicable versions of the International Fire Code (IFC), California Fire Code (when applicable), NFPA standards, and local regulations.
• Manage public fire safety education initiatives.
• Collaborate with building officials, planning departments, law enforcement, and other relevant stakeholders.
• A Bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in fire prevention, inspections, and plan review.
• A minimum of five to eight years of supervisory or management experience.
• Common Certifications: Fire Inspector II (or equivalent), Fire Plans Examiner, Fire Officer certification, Fire Marshal certification (preferred), ICC Fire Code Official (preferred).
