Fire Alarm Designer – Midwest

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.

📋 Description

• The primary responsibility of the Fire Alarm Designer is to create fire alarm systems for Johnson Controls projects.

• Serves as the design lead on large, complex, multi-faceted projects while guiding other design team members supporting these initiatives.

• Manages and organizes personal workload, assists in directing the tasks of less experienced design team members, and collaborates with other design teams as necessary.

• Facilitates the review process of initial designs of medium complexity to ensure value-engineered and code-compliant solutions when needed.

• Coordinates with CAD Support Technicians to produce comprehensive technical submissions, including detailed schematics and drawings that meet design criteria.

• Supervises CAD Support Technicians in preparing project submissions for medium complexity systems, encompassing system operation, drawings, and calculations.

• Performs detailed calculations to ensure the system design adheres to code and standard requirements.

• Engages in pre/post project design meetings and attends customer/site coordination meetings, as applicable.

• Creates a bill of materials to support construction efforts.

• Reviews completed submissions alongside CAD Support Technician for equipment application, compatibility, and compliance with specifications and scope.

• Provides assistance to Project Managers upon receipt of orders to help maintain and/or enhance project margins.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of Fire and Security systems.

• NICET Certification Level II, or Level I with the potential to attain Level II.

• Familiarity with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code).

• Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV, and/or the Construction Industry.

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.

• Proven skills in drafting/CAD, computer estimating/pricing, and project management.

• Proficient in interpreting and understanding architectural and electrical diagrams.

• Knowledgeable in various electronic building systems.

• Advanced comprehension of mechanical systems and their integration with fire alarm systems.

• Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Capable of obtaining necessary licenses as required by national, state, and local codes.

• Ability to maintain a full-time work schedule.

• Willingness to travel locally as needed.
