This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +3 more states.
β’ The primary responsibility of the Fire Alarm Designer is to create fire alarm systems for Johnson Controls projects.
β’ Serves as the design lead on large, complex, multi-faceted projects while guiding other design team members supporting these initiatives.
β’ Manages and organizes personal workload, assists in directing the tasks of less experienced design team members, and collaborates with other design teams as necessary.
β’ Facilitates the review process of initial designs of medium complexity to ensure value-engineered and code-compliant solutions when needed.
β’ Coordinates with CAD Support Technicians to produce comprehensive technical submissions, including detailed schematics and drawings that meet design criteria.
β’ Supervises CAD Support Technicians in preparing project submissions for medium complexity systems, encompassing system operation, drawings, and calculations.
β’ Performs detailed calculations to ensure the system design adheres to code and standard requirements.
β’ Engages in pre/post project design meetings and attends customer/site coordination meetings, as applicable.
β’ Creates a bill of materials to support construction efforts.
β’ Reviews completed submissions alongside CAD Support Technician for equipment application, compatibility, and compliance with specifications and scope.
β’ Provides assistance to Project Managers upon receipt of orders to help maintain and/or enhance project margins.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of experience in the design of Fire and Security systems.
β’ NICET Certification Level II, or Level I with the potential to attain Level II.
β’ Familiarity with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code).
β’ Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV, and/or the Construction Industry.
β’ High school diploma or equivalent is required.
β’ Proven skills in drafting/CAD, computer estimating/pricing, and project management.
β’ Proficient in interpreting and understanding architectural and electrical diagrams.
β’ Knowledgeable in various electronic building systems.
β’ Advanced comprehension of mechanical systems and their integration with fire alarm systems.
β’ Basic understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
β’ Strong written and verbal communication skills.
β’ Capable of obtaining necessary licenses as required by national, state, and local codes.
β’ Ability to maintain a full-time work schedule.
β’ Willingness to travel locally as needed.
