This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• The Fire Alarm Designer's primary responsibility is to create fire alarm systems for Johnson Controls projects.
• Serves as the design lead for large, intricate projects, guiding other members of the design team in support of these initiatives.
• Manages and organizes personal workload, assists in directing the tasks of less experienced design team members, and collaborates with other design teams as needed.
• Conducts reviews of initial designs of medium complexity to provide value-engineered and code-compliant solutions where necessary.
• Works closely with CAD Support Technicians to prepare comprehensive technical submissions, including detailed schematics and drawings that meet design criteria.
• Supervises CAD Support Technicians in preparing project submissions for medium complexity systems, encompassing system operation, drawings, and calculations.
• Performs detailed calculations to ensure the system design adheres to code and standard requirements.
• Engages in pre/post project design meetings and attends customer/site coordination meetings as necessary.
• Develops a bill of materials to facilitate the construction process.
• Reviews completed submissions with the CAD Support Technician to ensure equipment application, compatibility, and compliance with specifications and scope.
• Provides assistance to Project Managers upon receipt of orders to help maintain and/or enhance project margins.
• At least 5 years of experience in the design of Fire and Security systems.
• NICET Certification Level II, or Level I with the potential to achieve Level II.
• Familiarity with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code).
• Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV, and/or the Construction Industry.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Proven skills in drafting/CAD, computer estimating/pricing, and project management.
• Proficient in interpreting architectural and electrical diagrams.
• Knowledgeable in various electronic building systems.
• Advanced understanding of mechanical systems and their interaction with fire alarm systems.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and Adobe.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Capable of obtaining necessary licenses as mandated by national, state, and local codes.
• Ability to work a full-time schedule.
• Willingness to travel locally as required.
