Financial Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the Group's financial actuals and establish scalable processes to support ongoing growth.

• Oversee the month-end closing process and conduct weekly finance activities.

• Manage and enhance revenue recognition, deferred revenue, accrued liabilities, P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and related reconciliations.

• Improve internal and departmental reporting while also supporting ad hoc internal and external reporting needs.

• Lead and mentor the Accountant responsible for Financial Operations, including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and cash coding.

• Design scalable quote-to-cash processes for both B2C and B2B segments.

• Oversee the finance technology stack, which includes spend management and AP/AR tools.

• Develop and refine the Finance skills library in Claude and automate repetitive tasks.

• Collaborate with HR, RevOps, and Analytics to identify root causes and enhance data integrity across platforms such as Stripe, PayPal, and Tableau/Hex.

• Ensure financial controls are in place and manage the annual audit from start to finish.

• Handle corporation tax, quarterly installments, R&D claims, HMRC inquiries, and CT reconciliation.

• Manage UK VAT, international VAT, and US sales tax processes across more than 30 jurisdictions.

• Take charge of Companies House filings, registered-office correspondence, ONS surveys, dividend vouchers, withholding tax, residency certificates, and US entity compliance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Fully qualified accountant (ACA preferred; ACCA or CIMA considered) with over 2 years of post-qualification experience.

• More than 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, ideally in both practice and industry settings.

• Experience in a startup or scale-up environment that is fast-paced and constantly evolving.

• Familiarity with high-volume B2C subscription and/or B2B SaaS operations; experience in both is a significant advantage.

• Solid understanding of accounting principles and best practices.

• Proficient in Excel with basic modeling skills.

• Proven use of AI in finance tasks; comfortable creating and managing workflows in platforms like Claude.

• Preferred: Data analytics capabilities.

• Experience with payment processors such as Stripe and PayPal.
