Financial Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the month-end closing process across all business entities, aiming for completion by business day 10.

• Oversee payroll for both Canadian and US entities, handling all remittances, year-end filings, and platform management (Deel and similar tools).

• Administer intercompany transactions and reconciliations in both CAD and USD.

• Generate monthly consolidated financial statements for the CFO and ownership stakeholders.

• Lead a small team consisting of bookkeepers, accounts receivable/accounts payable specialists, and payroll administrators.

• Ensure compliance with GST/QST/HST, US sales tax, SR&ED, and corporate taxes in collaboration with external accountants.

• Develop a finance operations playbook in Notion for the team to utilize.

• Assist with mergers and acquisitions as well as integration efforts as the company expands.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess a CPA designation (Canadian).

• Be fully bilingual in French and English, both written and spoken.

• Reside in Canada.

• Have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accountant role.

• Have direct experience in an agency, professional services, or media/marketing services setting.

• Demonstrate hands-on multi-entity payroll experience across Canadian and US jurisdictions.

• Exhibit strong familiarity with QuickBooks Online.

• Have experience in multi-entity, multi-currency accounting (CAD/USD).

• Possess a solid understanding of Quebec and Canadian tax compliance (GST/QST, T2, T4/T4A, T5, RL-1).

• Have a working understanding of US tax compliance.
