This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.
• Develop, execute, and sustain a comprehensive suite of internal financial controls encompassing payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash management.
• Take ownership of the statutory compliance calendar for the Philippines, which includes BIR filings, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and local withholding taxes.
• Collaborate with our external UK accountant regarding compliance obligations in the UK (HMRC, Companies House, VAT, year-end).
• Oversee the integrity of the vendor master file and manage payment authorization workflows.
• Lead the payroll reconciliation process across all entities.
• Apply variance analysis to identify and highlight anomalies prior to payment disbursement.
• Ensure that the processes for authorizing salary changes are documented and adhered to.
• Act as an internal check on our Philippines payroll provider, independently verifying accuracy and compliance.
• Establish and oversee invoice approval workflows along with three-way matching processes.
• Conduct regular reviews of accounts receivable aging and follow up on overdue accounts.
• Maintain and enforce payment authorization thresholds.
• Define and document the credit and collections policy.
• Manage the monthly financial close process, aiming for completion within 10–15 business days after month-end.
• Generate accurate monthly financial statements: income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement.
• Facilitate monthly budget-to-actual reviews and present variances with clear explanations.
• Maintain reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and ensure journal entry controls are in place.
• Supervise monthly bank reconciliations across all accounts.
• Maintain a 13-week rolling cash flow forecast.
• Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the CEO.
• Prepare quarterly forecasts that accurately reflect short-term business conditions.
• Proactively identify financial risks and opportunities based on budget versus actuals.
• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a finance controller, senior accountant, or similar role.
• Demonstrated experience in establishing or formalizing financial controls within a growing organization.
• Philippines CPA qualification is mandatory.
• In-depth knowledge of Philippines statutory requirements, including BIR, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and payroll tax obligations.
• Experience in working with or managing third-party payroll providers.
• Familiarity with international or multi-entity finance, especially UK operations (preferred).
• Experience working closely with a founder or CEO in a streamlined finance function (preferred).
• Strong grasp of internal controls and segregation of duties.
• Solid understanding of IFRS/PFRS accounting principles and the preparation of financial statements.
• Proven experience in payroll reconciliation and variance analysis.
• Ability to design and document financial controls and processes from the ground up.
• Proficient in accounting software such as Xero (preferred), QuickBooks, or NetSuite.
• Competent in using Excel/Google Sheets for financial modeling and reporting.
• Detail-oriented with a low tolerance for ambiguity or unexplained variances.
• Self-motivated, able to identify gaps and take initiative without supervision.
• Effective communicator capable of explaining financial concepts to non-finance colleagues.
• Comfortable working in a lean, fast-paced environment, requiring both strategic and hands-on approaches.
• High level of integrity, as this position carries significant financial trust.
