This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Take ownership of the integrity of all fundamental accounting functions, including the general ledger, revenue recognition, grants accounting, and comprehensive balance sheet management.
• Act as the primary steward of the general ledger and balance sheet, ensuring that all transactions and account balances are accurate, timely, and compliant with nonprofit accounting standards.
• Lead the month-end and year-end closing processes with accuracy and diligence, consistently producing high-quality financial reports.
• Develop and continuously enhance accounting policies, procedures, and documentation to maintain a top-notch finance function.
• Set the vision and enterprise-wide standard for internal controls, ensuring a strong control environment that protects assets and supports audit preparedness.
• Continuously assess and reinforce controls, proactively identifying risks and implementing improvements.
• Manage all facets of the organization’s audit and compliance activities, preserving KIPP Foundation’s strong history of clean audits.
• Supervise the preparation and submission of the Form 990 and ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations, including grant compliance and tax filings, while proactively addressing new regulatory developments.
• Oversee the preparation and presentation of financial reports to key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, Audit Committee, and Leadership Team.
• Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on nonprofit revenue recognition and grant accounting.
• Manage and supervise operating cash to ensure strong liquidity and disciplined cash controls.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, or 10 years of equivalent experience.
• CPA designation is required, while an MBA is preferred for this position.
• Demonstrated success in financial management.
• Experience in maintaining internal control environments to ensure compliance.
• Required experience with nonprofit accounting and fund accounting.
• Required experience with federal funds.
• Exemplary integrity, discretion, and cultural competence in working with staff and handling confidential/sensitive information.
• Strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.
• Strong management capabilities, including people management, team leadership, and project management.
