This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• The Critical Power UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) Technician is tasked with servicing, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining UPS systems from various manufacturers; both single and three-phase, as well as batteries and other essential power equipment like Power Distribution Units (PDUs) and Static Switches (SSWs).
• This role also offers technical support to customers concerning operational and maintenance aspects.
• Conduct necessary preventative maintenance on equipment under contract as per the schedule.
• Responsible for maintenance that involves the usage and care of electrical test equipment.
• Provide guidance to the requesting department regarding available systems and requirements to fulfill their needs while adhering to safety codes.
• Execute initial startups.
• Offer 24/7 on-call emergency services as needed.
• Implement maintenance routines for electrical equipment.
• Perform maintenance on battery systems.
• Install designed battery systems to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety codes.
• Deliver requested services while adhering to safety codes, specifications, and budgetary constraints.
• Collaborate with team members to complete custom and large installation projects.
• Educate customers on the basic operation of their equipment, informing them of potential issues and necessary corrective actions.
• Establish, promote, and maintain an excellent rapport with all customers, co-workers, sales representatives, and other relevant parties.
• Troubleshoot critical power systems down to the root cause and perform repairs with minimal disruption to customer operations or site activities.
• Interpret technical documentation, including schematics.
• Coordinate and manage all on-site subcontractors as needed.
• Identify sales opportunities for critical power equipment and additional products, connecting potential customers with the appropriate internal and external sales and technical resources.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation, including Field Service Reports, RMAs, timecards, and expense reports.
• Some warehouse responsibilities will be included, such as preparing batteries for transportation, managing inventory, and operating a forklift.
• Provide training and guidance to less experienced employees when necessary. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor.
• A High School diploma or GED is required.
• Factory training or equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance of multiple leading UPS brands is preferred.
• Proven experience working with 3-Phase UPS systems is essential.
• A solid understanding of sealed and wet cell battery theory and applications is mandatory.
• Must be thoroughly familiar with Battery Maintenance Procedures.
• Working knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical/electronic theory is required.
• Must be able to pass a background check and obtain a TWIC card.
• Must be able to pass a drug test; technicians are subject to random drug testing through our testing facility, DISA.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills are necessary.
• Ability to organize work independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds and across remote offices.
• Capability to clearly communicate ideas (both written and verbal) to internal and external customers while effectively listening to their needs.
• Ability to develop and sustain strong workplace relationships with a focus on customer satisfaction.
• Capacity to work collaboratively with other departments for the greater good of the organization.
• Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
• Experience in the telecommunications sector is preferred, though not mandatory.
• Extensive travel is required, up to 80% of the time.
• Must possess schedule flexibility, as services may be conducted during evenings or weekends.
• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Willingness to work overtime is necessary.
