Field Logistics Coordinator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the main contact for ALE regarding all expedition logistics, including flight arrangements, cargo management, camp setup, field movement planning, and communication systems.

• Collaborate with the science team to create a comprehensive Field Plan that outlines site access, instrument deployment sequences, travel routes, daily timetables, and contingency strategies.

• Manage the procurement, packing, documentation, and transportation of equipment to the staging area in Punta Arenas.

• Facilitate team medical and fitness clearances along with any necessary training or paperwork required by ALE.

• Communicate with science team members from various institutions to gather and consolidate logistical requirements.

• Supervise the return of equipment, cargo tracking, and shipping operations from Punta Arenas.

• Prepare a post-season logistics report that captures lessons learned, ALE expenses, and suggestions for upcoming seasons.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in polar field settings, ideally having completed at least one season in Antarctica, with a solid understanding of the challenges associated with remote ice-sheet fieldwork.

• Background in working with or alongside a commercial or national Antarctic logistics provider; knowledge of how field plans, cargo systems, and flight scheduling are executed in real-world scenarios.

• Previous direct involvement with ALE operations and Union Glacier staging.

• Personal field experience in Antarctica, providing a firsthand perspective on the environment and the limitations faced by the team.

• Educational background in glaciology, geophysics, or related cryosphere sciences; understanding of seismic, GNSS, or radar field operations.

• Experience in coordinating science teams from multiple institutions.

• Previous positions as a field Principal Investigator, member of a science coordination office, or expedition manager on a polar project.
