Field Engineer II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Conduct thorough evaluations of technical operations, implementing advanced corrective actions to enhance equipment quality and performance.

• Independently install, maintain, and repair intricate broadcast equipment, including but not limited to audio processors, transmission systems, EAS equipment, receivers, monitors, and electrical systems, while optimizing signal and sound in accordance with Ministry guidelines.

• Expertly operate equipment to regulate and enhance signal strength, clarity, and sound quality.

• Proactively identify and resolve complex technical issues on equipment and systems at the component level, utilizing advanced, systematic methodologies.

• Act as a knowledgeable collaborator with contract engineers, offering expert insights, evaluating their work, and coordinating projects effectively.

• Lead teamwork initiatives with internal staff to quickly address intricate technical challenges.

• Diligently complete and submit all necessary administrative documentation, including but not limited to timecards, expense reports, vehicle logs, budgeting documents, and other relevant records by established deadlines.

• Utilize and maintain designated asset management, work order, and ticketing system software to efficiently log activities, track inventory, and update statuses.

• Respond in a timely and professional manner to emails, texts, and phone calls, ensuring clear communication regarding operational status, project updates, and other work-related concerns.

• Keep organized digital and physical records as necessary for compliance and operational continuity.

• Maintain an extensive understanding of FCC rules and regulations, ensuring all equipment and operations comply with or exceed legal and safety standards.

• Actively promote and comply with K-LOVE's Injury Prevention and Safety program.

• Strictly adhere to lock out-tag out procedures.

• If assigned, serve as Chief Operator/Engineer for broadcast station(s), diligently fulfilling all regulatory responsibilities.

• Conduct required, comprehensive on-site visits to each assigned transmitter site at least once per quarter.

• Provide swift response and expert resolution for unplanned outages, emergency repairs, and critical events necessitating on-site presence.

• Perform essential maintenance on non-broadcast equipment (e.g., electrical generators, HVAC, minor electrical/plumbing) to ensure holistic site functionality.

• Undertake necessary trips to sites for installations or repairs, or to K-LOVE Campus for training or specialized projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical studies in electronics, broadcast communications, or a related field; OR a minimum of three years of directly related experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• SBE Certification is highly desirable.

• At least 4+ years of proven experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining complex broadcast electronic equipment, or comparable relevant experience.

• In-depth understanding of broadcast air-chain components and IP-based signal distribution.

• Intermediate networking skills (TCP/IP, routing, switching) with the ability to diagnose common network issues.

• Intermediate knowledge of modern microwave and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite technologies.

• Comprehensive understanding of radio frequency (RF) emissions.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting electronic schematics, electrical drawings, and construction blueprints.

• Capability to perform accurate calculations for commonly used broadcast-related formulas.

• Expertise in soldering and desoldering electronic components.

• Extensive knowledge of applicable broadcast-related FCC rules and regulations.

• Proficient with standard broadcast test equipment (VOMs, Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analyzers).

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other standard software.

• Established ability to systematically and logically tackle multiple, complex technical problems.

• Ability to apply common-sense reasoning to follow instructions and think logically from problem identification to solution.
