Field Application Engineer – Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Offer technical guidance and assistance to clients on intricate automation projects.

• Manage projects transferred from the Sales team and deliver comprehensive technical support in partnership with clients from the evaluation and conceptual stages onward.

• Design and implement customized automation solutions tailored to customer needs.

• Assist in transitioning existing control solutions to new automation platforms.

• Program and tailor PLC controls, visualizations, and customer-specific software modules.

• Provide support for prototypes, testing, and commissioning activities directly at client sites.

• Evaluate existing machine and system concepts and analyze technical implementation possibilities.

• Collaborate closely with Sales, Product Management, Engineering, and various internal departments.

• Identify further application opportunities and cross-selling potential within current customer projects.

• Gather customer requirements and feature requests and relay them to the appropriate internal teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Information Technology, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.

• Several years of hands-on experience in automation engineering.

• Strong expertise in PLC programming and a solid understanding of control and automation systems.

• Experience with Siemens TIA and/or CODESYS-based control systems.

• Familiarity with industrial communication and fieldbus technologies such as PROFINET or EtherCAT.

• Proven experience in commissioning and technically executing complex machine and system solutions.

• Comprehensive, end-to-end technical knowledge.

• Strong customer-focused and solution-oriented mindset.

• Commercial acumen with the ability to recognize additional application opportunities for clients.

• Independent, organized, and proactive work style.

• Proficient in German and competent in English.

• Willingness to undertake regular client visits, particularly in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, with some travel to Austria and Switzerland anticipated in the future.

• Knowledge of high-level programming languages such as C/C++, C#, Python, or Rust is advantageous but not mandatory.
