This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Edit documents for correct grammar, covering punctuation, spelling, consistency, meaning, accuracy, appropriate wording, format, and style, among other criteria.
• Utilize databases such as Westlaw, Lexis, and HeinOnline, among other resources, for citation verification.
• Consistently implement business style and suitable legal, local court/agency, and/or academic citation formats.
• Conduct manual comparisons of documents character by character.
• Compare patent applications against published versions from the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and generate a corrections sheet.
• Verify mathematical calculations for accuracy.
• Check defined terms and cross-references for precision, consistency, and completeness.
• Confirm references to legal and other authorities, editing for accuracy, meaning, and correct formatting.
• Review and update tables of authority for accuracy and consistency using software such as Best Authority.
• Revise and format documents, apply track changes, and manage automatic numbering and styles.
• Compare documents and create redline or other types of comparisons.
• Save and retrieve documents using a document management system.
• Accurately track and report work assignments through the ticketing system.
• Communicate and collaborate with the team regarding workload and availability.
• Provide coverage for FAST members during periods of need.
• Deliver consistently accurate and high-quality work products that meet Firm and departmental service level standards.
• Contribute to enhancements in efficiency and work quality.
• Create and update knowledge articles, editing guides, and internal style sheets.
• Prioritize and delegate tasks and manage reservations based on deadlines and staffing during the coordinator shift.
• Analyze requests to record, monitor, and update reservation requests.
• Negotiate deadlines with attorneys and staff.
• Engage in problem-solving and professional communication with requestors in cases of time and staffing constraints.
• Timely escalate concerns or issues to the FAST Supervisor.
• A Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, or a related field is required.
• A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a deadline-driven environment within an academic, technical, or legal organization, focusing on proofreading, editing, and drafting documents, including correspondence, marketing materials/press releases, contracts, technical documents, legal pleadings, and expert reports.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, iManage, Adobe Acrobat, Litera Compare, Metadata Assistant, Carpe Diem, Lexis, Westlaw, and Drafting Assistant/Deal Proof.
• Expert-level fluency in reading, writing, and verbal communication in English.
