Facilities Operations Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the daily operations of vital facility infrastructure across AI compute campuses.

• Manage operational readiness activities that facilitate new campus launches and infrastructure growth.

• Collaborate with commissioning teams to transition facilities from construction and startup phases to stable operations.

• Create, implement, and continually enhance operating procedures, maintenance programs, and response strategies.

• Lead infrastructure incident response initiatives and coordinate recovery efforts during critical situations.

• Conduct root cause analysis investigations and corrective action programs to boost reliability and operational efficiency.

• Oversee vendors, contractors, and service providers who support facility operations.

• Collaborate with hardware deployment, networking, and engineering teams to manage infrastructure modifications and maintenance tasks.

• Assess facility performance, operational risks, and capacity utilization across essential systems.

• Assist in staffing, training, and the professional development of facilities operations personnel.

• Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and operational standards.

• Establish operational processes that can scale with OpenAI's rapidly expanding infrastructure footprint.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in operating mission-critical facilities, data centers, industrial infrastructure, or large-scale technical operations environments.

• Strong understanding of electrical distribution systems, generators, UPS systems, cooling systems, and building controls.

• Experience in supporting commissioning, operational readiness, or infrastructure turnover programs.

• Proven leadership in managing facility operations teams, contractors, and third-party vendors.

• Comfortable in handling incidents and making decisions in high-pressure operational settings.

• Experience in developing maintenance strategies, operating procedures, and reliability programs.

• Thrives in fast-paced environments characterized by significant ambiguity and rapid growth.

• Effective communication skills across both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
