Experienced Tax Accountant – Small & Medium Family Groups

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.

📋 Description

• Tax Compliance — Family Group Structures

• Preparation of income tax returns for various entity types within family group structures, including individuals, discretionary trusts, unit trusts, companies, and partnerships according to the ITAA 1997 and ITAA 1936.

• Preparation of annual trust distribution minutes and resolutions before 30 June, considering Section 100A risks, trust streaming rules, and Div 7A implications.

• Preparation of Div 7A loan agreements, calculations for minimum yearly repayments (MYR), and reviewing as well as providing feedback on work prepared by junior outsourced team members regarding family group compliance files.

• Staying updated on ATO rulings, Tax Determinations, Law Companion Rulings (LCRs), and legislative changes pertinent to family group and SME clients.

• Contributing to internal outsourced team checklists, precedent workpapers, and quality control procedures while working within structured workflows and turnaround times established by onshore practice clients, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of work.

• Proactively communicating with onshore accountants and client managers about any missing information, queries, or technical issues found during file preparation.

• Creating clear and well-documented workpapers that facilitate efficient onshore review, approval, and lodgement.

• Participating in onshore team video calls, briefings, and workflow planning sessions as needed.

• Complying with data security protocols and confidentiality obligations related to outsourced client information.

• Keeping accurate time records and tracking jobs within practice management systems (e.g. CCH iFirm, Karbon, or Xero Practice Manager).


⛳️ Requirements

• CA (Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand) or CPA Australia qualified, or nearing completion.

• A minimum of 3–5 years of experience in Australian public practice with proven exposure to family group or SME multi-entity structures (essential).

• Robust working knowledge of discretionary trust taxation, Div 7A compliance, CGT events, SBE concessions, and Section 100A trust distribution rules.

• Solid understanding of the ITAA 1997, ITAA 1936, TAA 1953, GST Act 1999, and FBTAA 1986.

• Proficiency in Xero and at least one Australian tax lodgement platform — CCH iFirm, Handisoft, or APS.

• Familiarity with the ATO's Online Services for Agents portal and practitioner lodgement service (PLS).

• Proven ability to prepare high-quality, review-ready workpapers with clear documentation and audit trails.

• Strong written communication skills for liaising with onshore teams, including the capability to clearly articulate queries, highlight technical issues, and summarize findings.

• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work on multiple practice client files simultaneously within an outsourced team environment.

• Registered Tax Agent under TASA 2009, or actively pursuing registration with the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB).

• Assistance with CGT event analysis, cost base calculations, and eligibility workpapers for the 50% CGT discount and small business CGT concessions under Div 152.

• Preparation of rollover relief workpapers for business restructures under Subdiv 122-A and 328-G.

• Identification of Div 7A exposure within family group loan accounts and unpaid present entitlements (UPEs), along with drafting remediation notes for onshore review.
