Entry-Level Occupational Safety and Health Data Analyst

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Evaluate and categorize records of workplace injuries, illnesses, fatalities, catastrophes, and severe injuries or illnesses.

• Implement standardized case-classification codes utilizing the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Injury and Illness Classification System (OIICS).

• Use independent judgment to accurately and consistently classify complex or unclear cases.

• Create brief and clear incident narratives in straightforward, concise language.

• Oversee multiple work queues and deadlines while ensuring quality and attention to detail.

• Collaborate with team members and senior analysts for guidance, quality assurance, and knowledge exchange via Microsoft Teams.

• Contribute to documentation, process enhancements, and the development of analytical practices.

• Assist national occupational safety and health programs and OSHA initiatives to analyze injury and illness trends, aiming to enhance worker safety across the U.S.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in communications, health/environmental science, mathematics/statistics, or a related discipline.

• Required experience: 0 to 5 years.

• Strong analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail, with the capacity to apply rules consistently.

• Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication abilities, with the skill to articulate complex information clearly and concisely.

• Excellent time-management and organizational capabilities.

• Ability to work autonomously in a remote setting and complete tasks promptly.

• Experience or a strong interest in data analysis, public health, occupational safety, epidemiology, or related areas.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.

• Willingness and capability to learn new software and technical skills as needed.

• Experience with occupational health and safety and structured coding, such as OIICS or ICD coding, is preferred.

• Prior experience or coursework in data analysis or data management is preferred.

• Previous exposure to occupational health, injury or illness surveillance, or public health research is preferred.
