Engineering Team Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the architecture for the extraction, transformation, and orchestration within the complete migration pipeline.

• Convert technical strategies into actionable platform increments in collaboration with the team.

• Acquire comprehensive knowledge of the Legal data model and its connection to application behavior, workflows, and customer outcomes.

• Grasp legal practice management and accounting workflows, customer challenges, and data relationships.

• Design precise, verifiable, and scalable migrations across various firms and source systems.

• Establish repeatable go-live patterns that enhance migration speed, predictability, and customer adoption.

• Collaborate with the technical product manager to transform problems into actionable tasks and make informed trade-offs.

• Utilize AI to improve migration assessment, mapping, validation, and engineering workflows, enhancing speed, quality, and scalability.

• Lead the team and maintain a high technical standard, including documentation and handoff processes.

• Act as the technical point of contact for operations and migrations, ensuring alignment with planning and customer delivery requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in building data-intensive backend systems, including leading architecture within a team.

• Capability to reverse engineer application systems through forensic examination of underlying data structures and storage.

• Extensive experience in developing reliable data pipelines and ETL/ELT systems, including extraction, change data capture, transformation, and orchestration at scale.

• Practical experience with SQL, a transformation framework like dbt, and cloud orchestration tools such as Microsoft Fabric or Azure Data Factory.

• Strong emphasis on correctness, observability, and traceability in data quality, lineage, and edge cases.

• Ability to function as a hands-on technical lead, guiding direction, elevating the engineering standard, and contributing code.

• Pragmatic approach to scope and sequencing, with the ability to combine a robust platform foundation with practical AI and automation.

• Proven experience in leading data migration or system-to-system consolidation projects.

• Familiarity with multi-tenant SaaS applications and systems.

• Background in legal, fintech, healthcare, or other sectors with high standards for accuracy, confidentiality, and compliance.

• Experience in building a new platform or team from scratch.

• Experience in responsibly applying AI or LLMs to expedite data mapping, assessment, or transformation.
