Engineering Manager, Services

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of customer and business outcomes.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data, and Operations teams to pinpoint the most impactful problems to tackle.

• Establish success metrics based on measurable value for pizzerias, customers, and the business—not merely on completed projects or delivered code.

• Direct architectural and engineering decisions for the services under your team's purview.

• Assist the team in balancing speed, reliability, simplicity, and the long-term health of the system.

• Provide engineers with context, well-defined decision boundaries, and a sense of meaningful ownership.

• Support the team in delivering valuable enhancements regularly while maintaining high quality.

• Utilize customer feedback, product data, incidents, and operational metrics to assess the effectiveness of the team's decisions.

• Recruit and retain exceptional engineers, including those from diverse backgrounds who exhibit extraordinary talent and motivation.

• Foster strong relationships with other engineering, product, and business leaders.

• Proven experience in building and managing customer-facing software or platforms.

• Demonstrated experience in leading high-performing engineering teams.

• Strong technical acumen across backend services, APIs, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and production operations.

• Proficient in Python, Go, Ruby, or similar backend technologies.

• A history of enhancing both customer outcomes and engineering productivity.

• Capable of transforming complex, ambiguous challenges into clear strategies.

• A founder-minded approach: resourceful, decisive, intellectually curious, and proactive in seeking solutions.

• Strong instincts for leverage—understanding when to act swiftly and when to invest more deeply.

• The confidence to question subpar reasoning, including your own.

• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
