This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Ensure high reliability, minimal latency, and accuracy for Lithic's transaction processing interfaces and associated services.
• Spearhead the delivery of new functionalities across authorization, clearing/settlement, disputes, and network integration areas.
• Oversee and enhance the infrastructure that supports physical network peering with card network partners, ensuring that connectivity, failover, and capacity align with reliability standards.
• Elevate operational excellence by focusing on observability, incident response, on-call readiness, and practical reliability enhancements.
• Take ownership of initiatives from the planning stage to launch, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed and aligned throughout the process.
• Collaborate closely with Product and cross-functional stakeholders to clarify requirements early on, ensuring that engineering efforts are directed toward the most impactful work.
• Drive improvements in systems, processes, and documentation to facilitate a quick ramp-up for new team members.
• Engage in and help develop the team's on-call rotation.
• Proven experience in managing and developing engineers, including providing coaching, feedback, and conducting hiring processes.
• Strong technical acumen and system design expertise, particularly for low-latency, high-availability systems, combined with a solid understanding of networking and infrastructure.
• Ability to remain hands-on — this role requires a manager who can unblock tasks, review designs, and occasionally contribute directly when necessary.
• Experienced in deploying and maintaining production services with stringent uptime and latency expectations.
• Familiarity with or interest in network infrastructure, including peering, connectivity, failover, and capacity planning for external partner integrations.
• Background in or willingness to learn about payment processing, including card network protocols, authorization flows, clearing/settlement, or related fields.
• Proficient in Java, Python, or Kotlin, and AWS (or similar technology stacks), with the capability to quickly adapt to unfamiliar technologies.
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to maintain team alignment under time constraints.
• A growth mindset with a continuous desire for learning and improvement.
