This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Ensure the reliability, low latency, and accuracy of Lithic's transaction processing interfaces and associated services.
• Lead the delivery of new features across authorization, clearing/settlement, disputes, and network integration areas.
• Take ownership of and enhance the infrastructure that supports physical network peering with card network partners, ensuring that connectivity, failover, and capacity align with reliability standards.
• Elevate operational excellence by focusing on observability, incident response, on-call preparedness, and practical reliability enhancements.
• Manage initiatives from the planning stage to launch, ensuring stakeholders are informed and aligned throughout the process.
• Collaborate closely with Product and cross-functional teams to clarify requirements early, allowing engineering efforts to concentrate on the most impactful tasks.
• Drive improvements in systems, processes, and documentation to facilitate quick onboarding for new team members.
• Engage in and help refine the team's on-call rotation.
• Proven experience in managing and developing engineers, encompassing coaching, providing feedback, and recruitment.
• Strong technical judgment and system design expertise, particularly in low-latency, high-availability systems, with a solid understanding of networking and infrastructure.
• Willingness to remain hands-on — this is a player-coach role where the manager can unblock issues, review designs, and occasionally contribute directly when necessary.
• Experience in shipping and operating production services with stringent uptime and latency demands.
• Familiarity with or a keen interest in network infrastructure — including peering, connectivity, failover, and capacity planning for external partner integrations.
• Experience with or a desire to learn about payment processing — including card network protocols, authorization flows, and clearing/settlement, or related fields.
• Proficient in Java, Python, or Kotlin and AWS (or similar technology stacks), with the ability to quickly adapt to unfamiliar technologies.
• Exceptional cross-functional communication skills and the capability to keep teams aligned under tight deadlines.
