Engineering Manager – Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Lead and develop a team of platform engineers, providing mentorship, constructive feedback, and clear technical direction.

• Propel execution of crucial product initiatives from conception to launch, balancing rapid delivery with high standards of reliability and quality.

• Cultivate a culture of ownership, accountability, and ongoing improvement in engineering practices and team workflows.

• Engage thoroughly in technical discussions, guiding system design decisions and assisting the team in navigating architectural trade-offs.

• Keep abreast of relevant industry trends, emerging tools, and developer practices that can drive future team learning and investment opportunities.

• Assist the team in deconstructing complex problems into manageable milestones that deliver quick value while facilitating long-term platform development.

• Ensure that teams have a solid understanding of the developer experience, as well as the reliability, security, and velocity implications of the features they create.

• Collaborate closely with other teams such as Runtime, Security, and Product to comprehend needs, align priorities, and ensure the delivery of significant features and solutions through well-considered technical solutions and product roadmaps.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience as an Engineer in an Infrastructure or similar team, delivering products or features for other developers.

• 4+ years of experience in managing personnel and developing engineers, including recruitment, mentorship, and performance evaluation.

• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with the capability to work effectively across engineering, product, and design teams.

• Strong technical foundation with the capacity to engage deeply in system design, architecture, and engineering trade-offs.

• Ability to convert engineering objectives and user requirements into actionable roadmaps and shipped features.

• A robust sense of ownership and accountability for both team results and the long-term health of the system.

• Experience enhancing Reliability and/or Developer Experience through tools, processes, and team practices.

• Extensive experience with open-source technologies that support an internal platform tool or cluster, build and deployment systems, CI/CD, observability, and/or configuration management.
