Engineering Manager, Notifications Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead the team responsible for designing, constructing, and managing Reddit’s Notifications Platform/Foundations.

• Define the technical strategy for notification APIs, event-driven architecture, workflow orchestration, delivery pipelines, user preferences, templates, experimentation, and observability.

• Collaborate with the adjacent Notifications ML teams to develop and implement ML-driven notification systems.

• Work alongside product and engineering teams to establish platform agreements, enhance developer experience, and facilitate safe and efficient launches.

• Oversee the complete development lifecycle: design, development, testing, deployment, operation, and continuous improvement of highly available services.

• Implement practices that ensure reliability, scalability, performance, privacy, security, and operational excellence.

• Build and sustain a diverse, cross-functional engineering team.

• Align team objectives with the company's goals, collaborating with product and upper management.

• Effectively communicate team progress and expectations with cross-functional stakeholders.

• Support the career aspirations and development plans of engineers.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in building and managing engineering teams.

• At least 5 years of experience as a Software Engineer or Engineering Manager, focusing on large-scale distributed systems or platform services.

• Profound knowledge of distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, event-driven systems, and production APIs.

• Experience with highly available, low-latency services and best practices in operational excellence.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, data storage, streaming or messaging systems, and observability tools.

• Proven ability to set technical direction for platform teams while balancing consistency, extensibility, and team autonomy.

• Entrepreneurial mindset, self-driven, innovative, results-oriented, and proactive in dynamic environments.

• Strong communication skills for conveying complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Capability to address ambiguous and undefined challenges.
