Engineering Manager II, AI Systems

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Spearhead and expand the engineering teams for the AI Platform and AI Enablement Squad.

• Develop and manage internal tools, deployment strategies, and integrations that drive Root’s AI functionalities.

• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and quantitative scientists to outline and implement the AI engineering roadmap.

• Set engineering standards for reliability, observability, security, and responsible AI practices.

• Oversee team performance through coaching, constructive feedback, and effective delegation.

• Identify skill gaps within the team and address them through development initiatives, recruitment, or cross-functional collaborations.

• Actively engage with code, participate in design evaluations, and tackle technical challenges as necessary.

• Work alongside Engineering Leadership to enhance organizational efficiency.

• Coordinate AI infrastructure interactions with Platform, Data Platform, and product engineering teams for smooth delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience as a software engineer.

• More than 3 years of experience managing engineering teams.

• Proven experience leading teams focused on AI/ML infrastructure, integrations, or developer tools.

• Familiarity with large language model APIs, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation, or AI agent frameworks.

• Demonstrated capability to manage through ambiguity and drive execution of a dynamic technical strategy.

• Strong communication skills for effective interaction with engineering peers, data scientists, and senior business executives.

• Experience with cloud infrastructure, with AWS preferred.

• Familiarity with modern application development practices.

• Must be visible on camera for virtual interviews.
