This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +2 more countries.
• Report directly to the CTO and assist WalletConnect in building and expanding its Financial Services engineering team.
• Lead a cross-functional team of engineers focused on creating value-added services that encompass DeFi access, treasury management, and security and compliance.
• Oversee the squad's operating rhythm, including planning sessions, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives, in collaboration with the Product Manager.
• Establish team OKRs alongside Product and convert company objectives into squad priorities.
• Ensure the team is held accountable for their goals and proactively remove any obstacles.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, mentor engineers of varying seniority, and develop career progression paths.
• Administer fair performance evaluations and address underperformance promptly.
• Review designs and architectures, challenge trade-offs, and promote high-quality coding practices.
• Take ownership of reliability outcomes, including SLOs, error budgets, alert quality, on-call rotation, and blameless incident reviews.
• Balance the roadmap, technical debt, and operational tasks while clearly communicating decision-making processes.
• Facilitate alignment and mediation among Product, Design, other squads, and leadership.
• Collaborate with the People team on hiring, conducting interviews, closing candidates, onboarding, and ensuring timely productivity.
• Assess team health, delivery risks, and design drift utilizing data and judgment.
• Over 7 years of experience in software engineering, including more than 2 years in a management role.
• Technical expertise in building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Proven history of constructing, nurturing, and retaining high-performing teams.
• Experience in leading remote-first, distributed teams effectively.
• Demonstrated experience in delivering business-critical services where precision and reliability are crucial.
• Strong organizational skills and disciplined planning practices.
• Ability to make pragmatic decisions.
• Clear, charismatic communication skills and a natural aptitude for mediation.
• Self-aware, context-aware, coachable, and possessing strong instincts.
• In-depth knowledge of financial infrastructure, including CEX integrations, custody or treasury systems, on-chain swaps, DeFi protocols, reconciliation, or transaction/address screening.
• Personal or professional experience in the crypto/web3 space.
• Familiarity with Rust and TypeScript services on AWS, Grafana for observability, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Experience in implementing squad-level operating standards like SLOs, error budgets, and DORA-style delivery metrics.
