Engineering Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Actively engage in code reviews for Java, Python, and JavaScript/TypeScript — you identify issues, establish standards, and exemplify best practices.

• Promote the adoption of AI-assisted development methodologies in AWS environments, utilizing the team’s Java, Python, and MongoDB technology stack.

• Take ownership of enhancing CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI) and ensure the team is accountable for building, testing, and deploying high-quality software.

• Participate directly in technical design conversations — although you may not design every feature, your input is valuable in trade-off discussions.

• Recognize and highlight technical risks before they escalate into delivery issues; you are capable of spotting poor technical decisions independently.

• Advocate for engineering best practices, including test coverage, code quality checks via SonarQube, observability using Prometheus and ELK, and secure coding protocols.

• Lead a team of 6–10 engineers across one to two agile teams, overseeing their development, performance, and daily well-being.

• Conduct effective one-on-one meetings, establish clear expectations, and foster an environment that enables engineers to excel.

• Collaborate with your teams on quarterly planning, converting product and business objectives into well-defined engineering roadmaps.

• Protect the team from distractions and context-switching while ensuring critical escalations are addressed appropriately.

• Guide engineers towards greater technical independence — your aim is to build a team that requires less oversight over time.

• Manage the work breakdown structure for your teams — ensuring epics, stories, dependencies, and cross-team risks are transparent and current.

• Keep release schedules clear and communicate confidently with Product, Customer Operations, and senior engineering leadership.

• Proactively identify and manage risks; you take the initiative to provide status updates without needing to be prompted.

• Facilitate quarterly planning sessions involving Engineering, Product, and Business stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of substantial software engineering experience — you have written production code and remain closely connected to it.

• Proven experience with AI-driven software development practices and tools in cloud-native settings.

• Proficient in one or more of the following: Java/Spring Boot, Python (Flask/FastAPI) — you can read and thoroughly review code within the team's primary stack.

• Practical knowledge of AWS services and contemporary CI/CD practices; you understand the process from a PR merge to a production deployment.

• 2+ years in an engineering leadership position — either as a tech lead with team ownership or in a formal engineering management role.

• Experience with agile delivery at scale, including sprint planning, risk management, and cross-functional stakeholder communication.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; you can clearly articulate your team's technical work to non-engineers.

• ****Strongly Preferred:****

• Experience with MongoDB and PostgreSQL in production settings.

• Familiarity with containerized workloads — Docker, Kubernetes (EKS), AWS ECS.

• Background in regulated or clinical software environments (HIPAA, GxP, SOC 2) — or a proven ability to operate within high-accountability delivery frameworks.

• Previous experience in building or scaling teams within India-based engineering organizations.
