This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Oversee and nurture several engineering teams with varying levels of experience, facilitating their growth, performance, and career trajectories.
• Guide integrated teams of contractors and permanent staff, ensuring each group remains focused, healthy, and productive.
• Steer the teams through transitions — promoting the adoption of AI tools and encouraging engineers to adjust their workflows.
• Establish and advocate for strategies regarding technical debt and platform investment, weighing long-term viability against delivery demands.
• Serve as a trusted advisor for technical leads — rigorously assess their ideas and challenge unnecessary complexity before it consumes the teams' time.
• Collaborate with Product Owners and technical leads to maintain alignment in delivery, ensuring it is realistic and well-prioritized.
• Manage relationships with stakeholders, clearly communicating team capacity, progress, and any trade-offs involved.
• Attract and retain top engineering talent, creating teams that individuals aspire to join.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline — or equivalent practical experience in the industry.
• Demonstrated experience managing software engineers, including senior-level engineers and a combination of contractors and permanent staff.
• Background in delivering software within a regulated, security-focused environment such as payments or financial services (knowledge of standards like PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOX, GDPR, or CCPA is advantageous).
• Proven history of guiding teams through change, including the adoption of new tools and methodologies.
• Sufficient technical acumen to effectively challenge architectural and engineering decisions — though this role does not involve coding or code reviews.
• A history of leading through influence: advising tech leads and Product Owners rather than directly managing the work.
• Experience with remote and globally distributed teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Annual salary ranging from £80,000 to £100,000.
• Performance-based annual bonus scheme tied to individual and company achievements.
• 25 days of vacation annually (+ bank holidays + an additional day for each year of service, up to a maximum of 30 days).
• Workplace pension plan.
• Private medical insurance available after 30 days of employment.
• Work schedule of 7 hours per day, totaling 35 hours per week.
• A remote-first culture.
• Excellent work-life balance supported by our Flexi-time policy.
• Family-friendly policies, including enhanced maternity and paternity pay and shared parental leave.
• Opportunities for professional development with a designated company training budget.
• Bike2Work Scheme available.
• Lifeworks, an Employee Assistance Program offering wellbeing, family, and financial support services, including assessments, resources, and one-on-one counseling sessions. It also provides attractive perks such as discounts on gyms, restaurants, major retailers, and cinema tickets.
• Strong commitment to employee wellbeing, including mental health first aiders.
• Employee referral program with substantial financial incentives.
• Bonusly colleague reward initiative.
