Engineering Manager, Ads ML Efficiency

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Recruit, develop, and maintain a high-achieving team of ML engineers and systems-oriented engineers focused on model optimization and ML efficiency.

• Outline the roadmap for training optimization, inference optimization, launch-readiness tools, and reusable efficiency primitives across Ads ML.

• Lead efforts to decrease model training duration, online latency, serving costs, and infrastructure-related launch risks.

• Oversee the creation of profiling, benchmarking, load testing, observability, cost analysis, debugging, and efficiency certification systems.

• Collaborate with model owners and platform teams to expedite high-priority launches and eliminate bottlenecks in the production process.

• Balance immediate, high-touch optimization tasks with medium-term platform development and automation initiatives.

• Work in close coordination with MLP, AMP, Ranking, and serving teams to clarify boundaries, identify upstream generic wins, and ensure alignment with Ads requirements.

• Establish engineering standards for measurement, performance debugging, launch safety, and technical decision-making in efficiency initiatives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive ML Engineering Experience: The applicant should have hands-on experience with models and possess a deep understanding of training, serving, debugging, and optimization.

• Practical Optimization Experience: Proven track record of enhancing training loops, serving systems, profiling workflows, model/inference efficiency, or GPU utilization.

• Strong Leadership Skills: Experience in building and leading teams, mentoring engineers, overseeing project delivery, and making prioritization decisions amidst ambiguity.

• Proficiency in Distributed Systems: Demonstrated ability to analyze production-scale ML systems and understand the trade-offs impacting reliability, speed, cost, and scalability.

• Customer and Platform Focus: Capable of functioning as a service provider to modeling teams while also developing reusable systems instead of relying solely on one-off heroic efforts.

• Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to clearly articulate technical trade-offs to engineers, PMs, and senior stakeholders.

• Experience in Ads: Background in ads ranking, recommender systems, marketplace ML, or related production ML fields is highly desirable.
