Engineering Lead

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead one of The Key’s product squads focused on developing its compliance suite.

• Deliver hands-on technical guidance and actively code alongside the squad.

• Establish high-quality standards through personal contributions and code reviews.

• Oversee the architecture of the squad’s applications and services, ensuring long-term codebase integrity and safe operability post-launch.

• Serve as the squad’s Tech Lead during weekly product discovery sessions.

• Provide feasibility assessments on product briefs before they are added to the sprint board.

• Deploy tested working code to the main branch each sprint and launch on a termly schedule.

• Participate in customer discussions to maintain direct engagement with the issues at hand.

• Manage a team of 2–3 engineers through regular one-on-one meetings, development plans, and performance evaluations.

• Foster an engaged and sustainable squad culture as part of the engineering leadership team.

• Promote an agentic-first approach and encourage its adoption within the squad.

• Contribute to the shared agentic practices across the engineering organization.

• Collaborate with other squad leads, the Staff Engineer, and Platform and Core squads on shared services and dependencies.

• Utilize shared AI services and identify cross-squad constraints early on.

⛳️ Requirements

• A senior engineer who actively ships code, with substantial recent experience in modern web stacks.

• Proficient in TypeScript, React, Node, and Python.

• Daily, enthusiastic engagement with agentic coding tools (such as Claude Code or equivalent).

• Proven experience in enhancing others’ AI-assisted practices.

• Demonstrated leadership of a team (as a tech lead, lead engineer, or small team manager), including architectural oversight and mentorship.

• Comfortable engaging in discovery, negotiating scope with product peers, and providing alternatives instead of obstacles.

• Experience in line management, or clear readiness to take on such responsibilities with support.

• Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills.

• Experience in developing LLM-powered product features (preferred).

• Background in SaaS, EdTech, or compliance (preferred).

• Adaptability to the pace of a small company and experience with both legacy code and greenfield projects (preferred).
