Engineering Coach – Director/VP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Delivering one-on-one coaching to Mento members through virtual sessions utilizing the Mento Platform and Tools.

• Engaging in continuous training sessions to enhance coaching skills and abilities.

• Interacting with members via your Mento email or through chat in the Mento App between sessions.

• Being a vital member of the Mento coaching community by sharing coaching tools and insights, contributing to the improvement of our coaching practices and fulfilling our mission of empowering individuals to thrive in careers they love.

• Acting with kindness, respect, and empathy as a representative of the Mento community.

⛳️ Requirements

• A director, vice president, or other senior software engineering leader with over 15 years of experience managing engineering teams and coaching individuals.

• Extensive engineering leadership experience is highly valued; coaching certifications are appreciated but not mandatory.

• You have successfully managed the balance of significant technical responsibilities while leading a team, understanding the importance of delegation, prioritization, and guiding others without compromising your technical acumen.

• Proven experience in leading engineering teams through periods of hypergrowth, rapid organizational changes, or the transition from startup to scale, including establishing functions from the ground up and hiring in uncertain environments.

• Ability to influence and build credibility across various organizational levels, collaborating with product, GTM, and executive stakeholders, while assisting engineering leaders in enhancing their visibility and impact beyond their immediate teams.

• A background in AI/ML engineering, infrastructure, security engineering, or developer platforms is a significant advantage.

• A desire to transform your leadership skills into impactful coaching abilities.

• A passion for helping individuals progress in their careers to create rewarding professional and personal lives.

• A self-aware individual with high emotional intelligence, committed to fostering a safe space for others to express vulnerability.

• Enthusiastic about developing your coaching skills, bringing a growth mindset to the experience, regardless of your coaching background.

• Comfortable navigating a rapidly evolving startup environment.

• Able to commit at least 12 hours per month to coaching at Mento for a duration of 24 months or more.

• Prior experience in technology companies is a plus.

• In addition to a flat hourly rate, we provide select bonuses that encourage engagement with our membership and the growth of our community on the platform.

• You must be prepared to dedicate a minimum of three to five hours per week to Mento, regardless of other commitments and any changes that may arise.

• You are expected to collaborate with Mento for at least 24 months to foster meaningful relationships with our members.

• This is a fully remote role. Candidates must reside in North America or Europe.

• Our Hiring Philosophy: All new Mento coaches are required to participate in and complete our ICF certified coach training program, Mento Coaching 101. This rigorous training ensures that all participants can be matched with members shortly after completion, setting our coaches up for success while respecting everyone’s time.
