This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Develop, articulate, and provide insights on the overarching intent and significance of the regulations and legislation governing employee health and welfare benefit plans.
• Collaborate closely with the Vice President of Regulatory/Legislative Affairs to establish and implement a strategy aimed at educating, connecting, and delivering essential Regulatory & Legislative Strategy guidance and resources to team members nationwide.
• Remain informed about newly introduced laws, regulations, and rules pertaining to health and welfare benefit laws.
• Respond daily to inquiries from team members and Brown & Brown employees regarding laws, regulations, and rules associated with health and welfare benefit plans.
• Regularly assist the Regulatory & Legislative Strategy team by managing the Regulatory & Legislative Strategy group inbox, ensuring timely responses, and deploying resources to emails from Brown & Brown team members and clients.
• Contribute to the creation of articles and guides that address the laws, regulations, and rules applicable to health and welfare benefit plans for clients.
• Participate in developing compliance presentations concerning the laws, regulations, and rules relevant to health and welfare benefit plans for clients, prospective clients/team members, and employer groups, and deliver presentations on these topics.
• Focus primarily on researching and writing about complex issues related to the laws, regulations, and rules associated with health and welfare benefit plans.
• Collaborate with various departments, including the population health and wellness team, pharmacy team, actuarial team, operations teams, communications, marketing, and other stakeholders that the Regulatory and Legislative Strategy team engages with internally at Brown & Brown.
• Oversee and recommend suitable partnerships with vendors that assist in ensuring compliance with employee health and welfare benefit matters.
• Over 8 years of relevant benefits experience, with a specific focus on benefits compliance.
• Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with substantial experience in writing, reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing intricate laws and regulations related to health and welfare benefit compliance, demonstrating a proven ability for critical thinking and practical application of the rules.
• Background in Employee Benefits Regulatory & Legislative Affairs (preferred).
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and a proactive approach; self-starter.
• Strong interpersonal skills – the individual maintains confidentiality, is receptive to others' ideas, displays a willingness to embrace new projects, and possesses a growth mindset.
• Ability to manage workflow effectively, communicate with the Regulatory/Legislative team when assistance is needed on a project, and demonstrate initiative by volunteering for additional projects upon completion of current tasks.
• Creative and organized thinker, with a keen eye for detail.
• Experience working independently and adapting to rapidly changing priorities.
