This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey.
• Accountable for the precise review, abstraction, and assignment of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, facility-specific charging methodologies, and relevant modifiers for Emergency Department (ED) encounters.
• Ensure coding precision, regulatory adherence, suitable reimbursement, and compliance with client-specific coding guidelines, payer demands, and industry standards.
• Examine clinical documentation, emergency department records, physician notes, nursing observations, ancillary reports, and charging details to accurately reflect facility services provided during ED visits.
• Correctly designate facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels following client-specific emergency department leveling protocols and facility charging methods, demonstrating knowledge of the ACEP tool.
• Evaluate documentation from nursing personnel, physicians, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services to guarantee complete code assignment and charge capture.
• Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and payer-specific criteria.
• Engage in coding quality assessments, audits, educational programs, and process enhancement activities.
• A minimum of 2+ years of pertinent facility-fee outpatient coding experience, particularly in Emergency Department services.
• Experience with Injection and Infusion is mandatory.
• An active AAPC or AHIMA coding certification is required.
• Demonstrated capability to work autonomously and effectively in a remote setting.
• Proficiency in Epic is highly preferred.
• Additional experience in facility-fee and physician-fee medical coding is advantageous.
