Emergency Department Facility Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver CPT and ICD-10-CM coding for 1–4 specialties.

• Conduct facility coding for emergency department documentation.

• Offer coding services to support client needs.

• Code surgical procedures typical in an ER environment to enhance revenue when necessary.

• Utilize ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes with the utmost specificity.

• Accurately apply ICD-10-CM and, on occasion, CPT codes to ED documentation.

• Interpret coding guidelines to ensure precise code assignment.

• Evaluate documentation requirements and their impact on reimbursement.

• Adhere to AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding alongside the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.

• Follow internal policies, privacy and security regulations, and confidentiality standards.

• Engage in training and educational programs provided by the company.

• Uphold necessary productivity, accuracy, and quality benchmarks.

• Execute other responsibilities as assigned by Leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Certified by either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P).

• At least 6 months of relevant on-the-job experience.

• Consistent, predictable, and timely attendance.

• Solid knowledge and experience with EMR and billing platforms.

• Access to a phone, a reliable internet connection, and up-to-date CPT and ICD-10-CM coding resources.

• Maintain ongoing productivity and accuracy rates of 95% or greater.

• Achieve a quality score of 95% or above.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills in a professional context.

• Capable of coordinating, analyzing, observing, making decisions, and meeting deadlines.

• Ability to work independently utilizing coding skills.

• Capable of working at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours each day.

• Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 20 lbs. infrequently.
