Emergency Department Charger, Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Assist in maintaining precise and efficient coding processes to improve operational effectiveness.

• Accountable for coding diagnoses and procedures specifically for emergency department cases.

• Assign ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS codes for patients in the emergency department.

• Ensure accurate charge assignments utilizing ASAP software within the EPIC (CareConnect) system.

• Efficiently and accurately abstract all coded data to fulfill state and national reporting obligations.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree in Health Information Science, a bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, or completion of coursework in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding.

• COC, CPC-H, or CCS certification is mandatory.

• A minimum of one year of experience in emergency department coding and charging.

• Expertise in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4/HCPCS, and the application of modifiers.

• Familiarity with APC payment methodologies, AHA Coding Clinic, and CPT Assistant.

• Capability to train and orient new employees and students.

• Comprehension of state and national reporting standards.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Proficient in using Microsoft Office and EPIC (CareConnect) systems.
