Electrochemical Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance electrochemical process concepts, cell architectures, operational parameters, and scaling strategies for industrial-scale electrochemical systems.

• Offer technical insights on molten salt electrochemistry, cell arrangements, electrode materials, reaction environments, energy requirements, thermal management, and process efficiency.

• Assist in the design integration with DC power systems, high-temperature vessels, furnaces, mechanical piping, instrumentation, control systems, safety protocols, and custom equipment fabrication.

• Organize, assess, and document electrochemical testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, data analysis, and performance enhancement activities.

• Recognize technical risks, scaling challenges, process limitations, equipment interface concerns, and opportunities to enhance reliability, safety, and performance.

• Work collaboratively with internal subject matter experts, engineers, designers, fabricators, vendors, and project leadership to achieve technical goals.


⛳️ Requirements

• Experience with molten salts or a background in designing, developing, operating, or scaling industrial electrochemical cells.

• Strong knowledge in electrochemical engineering, including cell design, electrochemical reactions, mass transport, current distribution, electrode behavior, process monitoring, and performance assessment.

• Capability to translate electrochemical process specifications into practical engineering requirements for equipment design, power systems, controls, and operations.

• Experience in facilitating laboratory-to-pilot or pilot-to-industrial scale-up, test planning, technical documentation, and multidisciplinary engineering coordination.

• Ability to thrive in a complex technical setting that demands a focus on safety, technical precision, quality documentation, and cross-functional communication.

• Preferred Qualifications

• Senior-level experience in molten salt electrochemistry, electrorefining, electrowinning, electrodeposition, electroplating, metallurgy, or high-temperature electrochemical processes.

• Background in supporting DOE, NNSA, nuclear, advanced energy, materials processing, chemical processing, or highly regulated R&D programs.

• An advanced degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.

• Education and Experience

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, advanced technical training, and relevant electrochemical systems experience may also be considered.

• Due to the nature of government contract obligations and clearance requirements, U.S. citizenship is necessary.
