
Electrical Technician – Solar O&M

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance on all electrical and mechanical systems within a utility-scale solar power plant.
• Perform inspections, troubleshoot electrical problems, carry out repairs, and assist with daily operational tasks.
• Oversee plant availability, prioritize maintenance activities to optimize energy generation, and keep accurate records using the digital maintenance management system.
• Promote site safety, supervise contractors, and contribute to a proactive operations and maintenance (O&M) team culture.
• Test, maintain, and troubleshoot solar PV electrical components, including inverters, transformers, switchgear, and collection systems.
• Conduct current and voltage measurements, electrical diagnostics, and component-level repairs.
• Carry out maintenance on trackers, inverters, and balance-of-plant electrical systems.
• Assist with maintenance activities in substations and switchyards as required.
• Complete all tasks in accordance with site operating procedures, National Electrical Code (NEC) requirements, and electrical safety standards.
• Finalize Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Permit to Work, and all necessary safety documentation.
• Identify safety hazards and deficiencies in standards; escalate and rectify as necessary.
• Ensure that site access, health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance, security, and inspections adhere to established protocols.
• Utilize monitoring tools to assess energy output and respond to alarms, emergencies, and unusual operating conditions.
• Implement daily work plans based on prioritized tasks from planning and scheduling.
• Oversee contractor activities to ensure quality of work and compliance with safety requirements.
• Maintain responsibility for site tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Document all maintenance activities—both scheduled and unscheduled—in the digital maintenance management system.
• Gather data and compile reports to fulfill operational and regulatory obligations.
• Assist with technical presentations and offer guidance to the O&M team.
• Work collaboratively with site leadership and colleagues to uphold a high-performance O&M culture.
• Provide support to other sites as needed, including travel and flexibility with work hours.
• Engage in continuous improvement initiatives for maintenance processes and procedures.
• High School diploma or equivalent qualification.
• At least 2 years of experience as a maintenance electrician (in commercial, industrial, or power generation settings).
• Strong understanding of electrical safety, NEC standards, and power plant safety protocols.
• Capability to independently complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Lock-Out-Tag-Out (LOTO), and Tailboard forms.
• Proficiency in using hand and power tools, computers/tablets, and digital work order systems.
• Valid, unrestricted driver's license.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team, possessing strong communication skills.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, holidays, and respond to urgent issues.
• Associate degree in Engineering or a related field is preferred.
• NABCEP certification or Electrical License (Journeyman or Master) is preferred.
• Experience in renewable energy, particularly in utility-scale solar, is preferred.
• Familiarity with substation maintenance or power plant operations is preferred.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification is preferred.
• OSHA certification is preferred.
