Electrical Engineer, Radio Frequency (RF)

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist the FAA Spectrum Engineering Services Group as part of Leidos’ NISC IV program.

• Organize, manage, and implement frequency assignment actions for both FAA and non-FAA entities.

• Ensure that technical analyses and documentation adhere to FAA Orders, the NTIA Manual (Redbook), and established engineering standards.

• Conduct radio-frequency compatibility analyses utilizing FAA spectrum-automation and modeling tools.

• Execute RF propagation, link-budget, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and interference analyses.

• Validate technical information including location, equipment, parameters, emission designator, power, bandwidth, and antenna specifications.

• Collaborate with federal engineers, contractor engineers, Service Area Spectrum Offices, and FAA program offices.

• Troubleshoot technical challenges and facilitate the progression of records through the assignment and coordination process.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or completion of a formal spectrum management course, or equivalent military experience in spectrum management.

• A minimum of 2 years of pertinent experience in radio frequency engineering.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Capability to learn FAA-specific software and systems.

• Must be a US citizen.

• Must possess a Secret or higher security clearance, or be eligible to obtain one.

• Understanding of spectrum-engineering principles, electromagnetic theory, and radio-frequency propagation related to communications, navigation, and surveillance systems.

• Experience in utilizing analytical and automation tools for frequency-assignment processing, data validation, and compatibility analysis.

• Proficient in assessing RF system parameters to identify and mitigate interference.

• Familiarity with Spectrum XXI or similar federal spectrum management tools is highly desirable.

• Ability to perform engineering calculations, including Free Space Path Loss (FSPL), link budgets, noise/interference ratios, and power conversions.

• Competence in interpreting technical data and implementing RF interference mitigation best practices.

• Knowledge of spectrum management functions within the National Airspace System.

• Familiarity with frequency management practices and the NTIA Redbook.

• Knowledge and experience with NTIA, IRAC, and FCC organizations.
