This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Assist in the engineering and design of high-voltage substation Protection & Control systems for both AIS and GIS substations.
• Create and evaluate protection and control design drawings, which include single line diagrams, three line diagrams, DC schematics, communication schematics, and wiring details.
• Generate and assess engineering deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards such as IEEE, NERC, NEC, NESC, and specific client requirements.
• Contribute to project planning and execution by aiding in schedules, deliverables, and technical coordination.
• Formulate relay settings and develop protection philosophy.
• Conduct thorough QA/QC on P&C design packages.
• Provide mentorship to junior P&C engineers and designers.
• Participate in FAT, inspections, and offer site support as necessary.
• Assist with utility coordination and interconnection processes for renewable energy initiatives, including solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field is required.
• A Professional Engineer (P. Eng) license is preferred or the ability to obtain one.
• Over 5 years of experience in power system engineering, substation protection and controls, transmission planning, or integrating renewable energy.
• Proficiency in high-voltage substation P&C design, including relays, batteries, chargers, SCADA interfaces, and control panels.
• Familiarity with power system analysis software like PSSE, ETAP, ASPEN, SKM, or similar tools.
• Experience conducting power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, and arc flash analysis.
• Solid understanding of industry standards such as IEEE, NERC, NEC, and NESC.
• Prior experience in supporting utility coordination and interconnection processes for energy projects is preferred.
• Background in networking devices and communication configuration is beneficial.
• Experience with ASPEN software.
• Knowledge of relay settings is required.
• Capability to manage technical deliverables while adhering to project schedules and deadlines.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration and technical documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
