This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop and assess physical substation design outputs, which include equipment layouts, grounding systems, bus configurations, conduit and cable schedules, as well as general arrangement drawings.
• Conduct engineering calculations to facilitate substation design, such as grounding analysis, cable sizing, voltage drop, and equipment ratings.
• Assist in the selection of substation equipment and the review of vendor drawings.
• Create and evaluate construction design packages along with technical documentation.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including engineers, designers, and project managers, to aid project execution and address issues.
• Execute quality control and quality assurance checks on project deliverables, encompassing drawings and studies.
• Manage multiple projects while adhering to schedule and quality benchmarks.
• Ensure that designs meet industry codes and standards (IEEE, NEC, NESC, ANSI).
• Occasionally travel to conduct site visits.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Engineering, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) designation is required; Professional Engineering registration license or the ability to obtain it is necessary.
• 2–5+ years of experience in substation engineering, specifically focused on physical design.
• Experience in preparing construction documents, performing calculations, and reviewing drawings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, and/or electrical analysis software (ETAP, CYME, SKM, PSCAD).
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (IEEE, NESC, NEC).
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
