Electrical Cost Manager – I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Generate electrical cost estimates throughout the phases of conceptual/parametric design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.

• Conduct thorough quantity take-offs and assess system-level requirements for power distribution, lighting, low-voltage systems, and site/underground electrical utilities.

• Examine drawings, specifications, and design narratives to clarify electrical scope and pinpoint any gaps or coordination challenges.

• Create unit pricing utilizing historical cost data, industry databases, input from subcontractors/vendors, market insights, and local labor conditions.

• Collaborate with architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical teams to ensure comprehensive estimate inputs.

• Compile and uphold estimate documentation, including backup, assumptions, clarifications, and Basis of Estimate records.

• Engage in estimate reviews, reconciliation meetings, and discussions on design coordination.

• Recognize cost drivers, escalation effects, procurement risks, and constructability issues.

• Assist in value engineering and cost optimization through system evaluations, alternative analyses, and lifecycle assessments.

• Assess subcontractor bids, compare proposals, and price electrical-scope change orders.

• Keep project documentation organized and ensure traceability of quantities, pricing, and assumptions.

• Aid in QA/QC by verifying quantities, pricing methodologies, and the completeness of estimates prior to submission.

• Partner with project teams, design consultants, and clients across various projects.

• Travel occasionally for project site inspections, client meetings, and field validation.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

• Approximately 5–8 years of experience in electrical estimating or related roles within construction cost management.

• Familiarity with a range of project types and delivery methods (Design-Bid-Build, CMAR, Design-Build).

• Proven capability to develop estimates with increasing autonomy and technical accountability.

• Preferred experience in scheduling with knowledge of Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

• Strong understanding of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting systems and controls, fire alarm and life safety systems, low-voltage/data/communications systems, emergency power systems, and underground/site electrical utilities.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and specifications.

• Capable of understanding architectural, structural, mechanical, and civil documents for effective coordination.

• Expertise in detailed quantity take-offs and applying labor and productivity parameters.

• Familiarity with estimating software such as Sage Timberline, MCASES MII, OST, or similar platforms.

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

• Knowledge of cost databases and benchmarking systems.

• Awareness of labor impacts, productivity, escalation, and regional cost considerations.
