This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop computer-based models and conduct power system analyses on utility distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.
• Execute long-term and short-term planning, short circuit analysis, load flow assessments, motor starting evaluations, power factor correction, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) impact studies, load impact evaluations, and related analyses.
• Engage in both internal and external meetings with clients.
• Conduct system modeling, including steady-state load flows utilizing CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM, or similar software tools.
• Carry out studies focused on system reliability and resiliency planning.
• Evaluate distribution circuits for loading, voltage levels, reactive power, contingencies, coordination, and reliability.
• Undertake new load and generation interconnection studies.
• Propose solutions and best practices for both standard and non-standard scenarios.
• Conduct thorough engineering analyses adhering to established methodologies, criteria, and principles.
• Identify and implement new technologies and work practices aimed at reducing operational costs and enhancing safety.
• Articulate complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams.
• Independently manage project responsibilities and adhere to deadlines.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
• Over 2 years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies.
• Proficient in hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, and model validation.
• Familiarity with power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or equivalent applications.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently from home without supervision.
• Strong conceptual thinking skills.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational abilities.
• Capability to convey complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams.
• Prior experience in the electric utility sector is preferred.
• More than 5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
• Experience in forecasting load and generation growth is preferred.
• Familiarity with ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP short circuit software is preferred.
• Knowledge of ADMS and DERMS is preferred.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD for distribution design or drafting is preferred.
• Experience with Python for automating power system modeling software is preferred.
• Understanding of utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies is preferred.
• Experience in designing renewable energy generation facilities is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical report writing, are preferred.
• Familiarity with Independent System Operators such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, and SPP is preferred.
