This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +2 more states.
• Collaborate with fellow engineers to develop computer-based models.
• Conduct power system studies on utility distribution networks and industrial/commercial electrical power systems.
• Carry out both long- and short-term planning, including short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, DER impact, load impact, and related analyses.
• Engage in meetings with internal teams and external clients.
• Execute system modeling, encompassing steady-state load flows.
• Conduct studies focused on system reliability and resiliency planning.
• Analyze distribution circuits for loading, voltage, reactive power, contingency, coordination, and reliability.
• Perform studies for new load and generation interconnections.
• Suggest solutions and best practices for both standard and non-standard scenarios.
• Carry out detailed engineering analyses utilizing established methodologies, criteria, and principles.
• Identify innovative technologies and work practices aimed at lowering operational costs and enhancing safety.
• Clarify intricate technical matters to decision-makers and project teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
• Over 2 years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies.
• Proven experience with hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, and model validation.
• Proficiency in using power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or similar tools.
• Previous experience working with or within electric utilities.
• Preferred 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Ability to thrive in a customer-oriented, project-driven environment.
• Preferred experience in forecasting load and generation growth.
• Familiarity with short circuit software such as ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP is preferred.
• Knowledge of distribution operation software like ADMS and DERMS is preferred.
• Familiarity with distribution design and/or drafting in AutoCAD is preferred.
• Experience in Python for automating tasks in power system modeling software is preferred.
• Understanding of utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies is preferred.
• Experience with the design of renewable energy generation facilities is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including technical report writing.
• Familiarity with ISOs such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, and SPP is preferred.
