This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Lead the voice transformation strategy at Ziply, which encompasses transitioning from legacy TDM/SS7 systems to SIP/VoIP, deploying POTS-over-fiber solutions, and retiring copper infrastructure.

• Design and manage the integrated voice platform, covering VoIP, SIP trunking, and traditional TDM services.

• Spearhead the modernization of SS7/SIGTRAN and implement IP-based call routing solutions.

• Oversee the architecture of the Session Border Controller, including platform selection, high-availability configurations, and integration with carriers and CPE.

• Ensure adherence to FCC regulations, E911, CALEA, and state interconnection requirements.

• Collaborate with Legal, Regulatory, Security, and Operations teams to address voice-related needs and corrective actions.

• Establish the access network architecture, focusing on PON technology choices, OLT positioning, and fiber plant design standards.

• Manage the lifecycle of CPE and ONT devices, including device qualification, firmware governance, and standards for field deployment.

• Develop and manage business cases for voice and access investments, incorporating ROI calculations and savings forecasts.

• Negotiate vendor contracts and ensure partner accountability.

• Build and lead a team of engineers specializing in voice and access technologies.

• Set the team's priorities, technical benchmarks, decision-making processes, and accountability frameworks.

• Mentor engineers in navigating technical compromises, vendor choices, production challenges, and cross-departmental dependencies.

• Direct cross-functional initiatives with migration strategies, operational readiness assessments, customer impact reductions, and post-implementation evaluations.

• Perform additional duties as necessary to support the business and its evolving needs.


⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or a comparable combination of education and relevant experience.

• Over 12 years of experience in telecommunications, with in-depth knowledge of voice network architecture, access network engineering, and network transformation.

• 3 to 5 years of experience in leading engineering teams and technical experts.

• Background in broadband ISP, CLEC, telecommunications providers, or similar network settings.

• Demonstrated success in executing voice modernization projects with measurable financial results.

• Expert understanding of VoIP and SIP architecture, SBC platforms, SIP trunking, RTP media management, and call routing.

• Experience with the modernization of SS7/SIGTRAN signaling and transitioning to IP-based signaling.

• Practical experience with POTS-over-fiber and copper retirement initiatives.

• Familiarity with PON architectures, including GPON/XGS-PON, OLT placement, ONT/CPE lifecycle management, device certification, firmware governance, and field deployment standards.

• Ability to create and present multimillion-dollar investment proposals with ROI accountability.

• Experience in leading cross-functional technical programs with clear delivery metrics.

• Strong negotiation skills and experience in commercial relationship management.

• Proven track record in leading and developing engineering teams.

• Capacity to work autonomously and exercise sound judgment.

• Proficiency in multitasking and effective collaboration to meet deadlines.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with a keen attention to detail and organizational aptitude.

• Capability to work under pressure with critical deadlines and adapt to shifting priorities and schedules.

• Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service.

• Strong program execution discipline with the ability to translate architectural decisions into actionable plans and measurable results.

• Executive presence and communication skills to influence stakeholders across technical, operational, financial, legal, product, customer experience, vendor, and senior leadership domains.

• Strong analytical and financial skills.

• Candidates must currently be authorized to work in the US for any employer; sponsorship is not available.

• Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check; drug screening may be necessary.

• Must occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
