This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Oversee the financial review, accounting, and reporting for designated grants, including federal grants that are subject to Single Audit requirements.
• Ensure the timely and precise recognition of revenue for grants and contributions in compliance with GAAP, FASB guidelines, and OMB Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200).
• Prepare and record monthly journal entries related to grant revenue, expense allocations, and releases from restricted net assets.
• Manage grant revenue, grant receivable, and net asset release schedules; reconcile these schedules with the general ledger and trial balance each month.
• Collaborate with Program, Lending, and Finance teams to create grant financial reports and ensure conformity with funder agreements.
• Assist in post-award compliance and monitoring processes while acting as the primary accounting contact for grant-related audits.
• Generate grant-related documentation and schedules for the annual financial audit and federal Single Audit.
• Maintain accounting records for NMTC funds in line with GAAP and fund accounting standards.
• Reconcile NMTC fund bank accounts and associated general ledger balances.
• Record quarterly accruals for NMTC asset management fee revenue and manage related schedules.
• Monitor and reconcile expenses paid by NFF on behalf of NMTC funds; prepare and invoice receivables for reimbursement.
• Review quarterly and annual NMTC fund financial statements and draft tax returns created by external auditors and advisors before investor distribution.
• Assist with NMTC fund exits, including cash reconciliations, final financial statements, audits, and tax filings.
• Enhance and refine accounting processes and internal controls concerning NMTC activities, identifying areas for efficiency and consistency improvements.
• Contribute to monthly and quarterly close activities, including reconciliations and reporting for restricted funds.
• Collaborate with Finance leadership on financial systems modernization, process enhancement, and automation initiatives.
• Support cross-functional projects concerning financial technology implementation, workflow redesign, and ongoing improvement.
• Engage in internal and external meetings, department gatherings, training sessions, and collaborative efforts as appropriate.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
• Seven (7) years of progressive professional experience in accounting or finance, ideally within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
• Proven experience with nonprofit Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), restricted fund accounting, cost allocation, and audit support.
• Familiarity with federal grant compliance and reporting requirements.
• Strong expertise in accounting systems, financial reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel.
